Update: Hilary Duff, Mike Comrie get married

Getting engaged in Hawaii, in clear view of the paparazzi, Hilary Duff has been tight lipped about her wedding plans to NHL star Mike Comrie. In February, Comrie proposed in the room of their hotel after more than two years together.

And on Saturday, August 7th in front of 100 guests, the couple were married in an 8 p.m. ceremony at a Mediterranean villa in Santa Barbara, California, and they spent their first night as husband and wife at the San Ysidro Ranch nearby - the location which had been hotly tipped as the wedding venue.

"Mike held his arm around Hilary for most of the romantic, candlelit ceremony, and they both looked extremely happy," and eyewitness told People.com. According to OK Magazine, which exclusively reported the wedding, Duff was wearing a mermaid-style Vera Wang gown and was walked down the aisle by her mother, Susan, dressed in Badgely Mischka. Duff's older sister, actress Haylie, was maid of honour alongside four other bridesmaids.

To prepare for the big day Comrie, centre for the Edmonton Oilers, reportedly celebrated his bachelor party this week, and Duff had stepped it up to daily workouts with celeb trainer Harvey Pasternak - currently also working with Jennifer Hudson and Megan Fox. She had also been spotted last week running last-minute errands like most brides.

It feels like hockey players are a little in vogue right now - Carrie Underwood married Mike Fisher of the Ottawa Senators last month, and country singer Kellie Pickler was in a relationship with Nashville Predators right-winger Jordin Tootoo. Duff met her hockey hubby while on a private plane to an event in Idaho. He told Hockey Night in Canada last year, "We were all on the same plane and it was kind of, I guess, maybe a bit of a fluke. She calls it ironic. No I'm kidding! It [was] one of those things where we were all in a group … we spent the weekend all hanging out."

It didn't take long for Duff and her family to fall for Comrie, with Duff once saying of him, "I've never met anyone who can say a bad word about him. He's generous, caring and sunny. We just laugh our heads off."
