With the announcement today that Tiger Woods' divorce from Swedish former nanny Elin Nordegren is final, let's look back to the pair in a much happier time - their October 5, 2004 wedding at the Sandy Lane Resort in St. James, Barbados. The rumoured cost of the event, with the relaxed couple enjoying an extended break at the resort both before and after the ceremony (Woods rented every room in the hotel for seven days), was $1.5 million.
Among the 120 guests at the ultra-private ceremony (to this day, an official wedding photo has never been leaked) were celebrity heavyweights Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jordan, and Bill Gates. Four tents were set up on the resort grounds for the ceremony, and the vows were taken under a pagoda decorated with hundreds of imported black magic roses. The ceremony was officiated by a local Anglican priest.
Woods wore a beige suit, and Nordegren wore an off-white sleeveless scoop-neck gown with horizontal ribbon detail.
Guests dined on champagne and caviar, and blackened Scottish salmon at the reception held in the resort's banquet room, while entertainment included a performance by Hootie & the Blowfish and a fireworks display.
Over American Thanksgiving weekend last year, Woods' was busted (and beaten with his own clubs) by Nordegren when she learned of his unbelievably long trail of infidelities with call girls all over the world. Friends have been saying the couple was headed for divorce ever since, though neither had said the word themselves. Some legal experts claim that Nordegren, who did sign a prenup but had it renegotiated after the scandal, could walk away with up to $100 million in a divorce settlement.
